Introduction
Ardens Manager includes a feature that allows users to visualise patient data geographically using interactive maps. This enhancement transforms traditional data views into dynamic, location-based insights, helping practices, PCNs, and ICBs better understand and respond to the needs of their populations.

Why Visualising Data Matters
Seeing patient data on a map provides immediate clarity and context that spreadsheets often lack. Here is how the Maps feature can support your organisation:
- Spot Health Inequalities: helps identify areas with higher disease prevalence or lower service uptake, enabling targeted outreach and support.
- Plan Services Strategically: uses location-based insights to inform decisions about resource allocation, staffing, and service delivery.
- Support Integrated Care: facilitates collaboration across practices and systems by highlighting shared challenges and opportunities.
- Monitor and Evaluate Interventions: tracks changes over time in specific areas to assess the impact of health initiatives.
- Enhance Reporting and Engagement: creates compelling visuals for reports and presentations that resonate with stakeholders and decision-makers.
Accessing Maps
- Log into Ardens Manager.
- Navigate to the required dashboard.
- Locate the appropriate report and click View to open the single report screen.
- Click on the Map tab.

Navigating Maps
- Changing map view: Use the drop-down menu in the top-right corner to toggle between Organisation Postcode (default) and Patient LSOA.
- Zoom: Use the + / – icons or your mouse scroll wheel.
- Move the map: Place your cursor over the map (hand icon will appear), click and drag.
- Colour coding: Pins or LSOA areas are shaded as a heat map - darker colours = higher patient density.

Map Views
Organisation Postcode
This view displays a pin marking the location of each organisation, as well as any neighbouring organisations that form part of a data sharing agreement. Each pin will include the total number of patients. Hover over the pin to view details.

Patient LSOA
LSOA (Lower Layer Super Output Area) is a UK geographic unit used to report small area statistics, it typically covers 1000 - 3000 people. Each patient has an LSOA code linked to their registered address.
Organisations can use the colour-coded heat map to identify the highest density. Hover over the map for additional details.

Organisations can apply a filter to further narrow down by patient demographics, risk, conditions and more.
