Ardens have been investigating discrepancies impacting EMIS Web practices for payment for the CAN-02 indicator of the NCD DES 2023-24. Please note this ONLY affects EMIS Web GP practices.

EMIS Health has confirmed to us that CAN-02 payments for 2023-24 may be incorrect where a FIT test was coded retrospectively. This relates to how a clinical code is time-stamped when added to the patient record. Some PCNs may therefore have achieved the upper threshold for maximum payment despite appearing not to have achieved it at present, which may have led to an under-payment.

EMIS Health has advised that the best way to manage any under-reporting of CAN-02 for 2023/24 is for GP practices to make manual adjustments in CQRS. Once submitted, ICBs will then need to approve the evidence submitted before payment is made. To do this, Ardens Manager can support practices and PCNs by providing this data as evidence for manual adjustments, as it takes into account any retrospectively added data.

PLEASE NOTE: Including additional patients in the CAN-02 denominator may affect prevalence which can alter the financial value of the points achieved in a positive or negative way. There have been reports by some PCNs who have made manual adjustment on CQRS that their income from CAN-02 has gone down by a couple of thousand pounds. If you are doing a manual adjustment on CQRS, please therefore make sure you check this first before submitting.

If your PCN has not hit the upper threshold for CAN-02 performance and would like to take advantage of the Ardens support offering, please see below steps:

Existing Ardens Manager subscriber

Please log into Ardens Manager and navigate to the Network Contract DES 2023-24 dashboard. Then select the IIF tab and use the CAN-02 performance to evidence your activity.

If your organisation setup their account after the 1st April 2024, this dashboard may not be available. Instead, please contact [email protected] to request to join the 'Network Contract DES 2023-24 (EMIS CAN-02 evidence)' contract. Once joined, data will be populated the following day with activity counts which can be used as evidence.

Please note that ICBs may require further information on top of the Ardens Manager activity counts to approve manual adjustment to performance. If this is the case for your ICB and you require support with delivering this, please email [email protected] .  Please also note the above risk of your income for CAN-02 going down (see italics above).

We are currently offering a free extended trial of Ardens Manager until 1st October which PCNs can utilise to provide CAN-02 evidence for free. Once set up, you may wish to explore the other functionality available on Ardens Manager but there is no obligation to continue with using it after 1st October. Please complete the trial setup form to proceed and a member of the team will be in touch with further information.
